The choosing of the date 1 december, although not definite, reffered to the union of Transilvania, Banat, Crisan and Maramures with Romania in 1918, respectively at the Proclamation from Alba-Iulia, which took place in 1 december 1918. The choosing of this date as the national holiday of Romania was seen as an insult towards the hungarian minority from Romania, for whom the day of 1 december meaned a political loss.
